The Great Northern Society

The Great Northern Society spans the great state of Minnesota. Our motto, "We will see what lies beyond" is adapted from what Henry Sibley, Minnesota's first governor, proposed to be the state motto. In his time, the phrase referred to the exploration and settlement of the wild American frontier. In our day, the frontier ahead of us is not one of natural wilderness, but a frontier of the inexorable turning of the wheels of history. It is an oath to ourselves and one another that whatever burdens and hardships are on the horizon, the men of our fraternity will see one another through them, and we will see what lies beyond.
